Do You Know What These Logos Are?
You see these logos on almost everything we do, but do you really know what they mean? Lawton Community Theatre receives significant funding from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the arts - this year to the tune of $38,000. We are extremely lucky to live in a state that values the arts enough to fund them. This allows us to produce excellent programming while still keeping ticket prices reasonable. Please let your legislators know how much we appreciate their support. We couldn’t do it without them. |
Lawton Community Theatre has been a vital part of the arts community in Southwest Oklahoma since 1952. Our home is a 195-seat theatre with a thrust stage, dressing rooms, scene shop, costume shop and storage. We have a full time professional staff; produce five plays and musicals each year; as well as several showcase performances and concerts. Our current membership exceeds 800 Season Subscribers and more than 200 volunteers. We believe that community theatre is the most important theatre in the U.S. It is the grassroots theatre of this country. It is the first theatre that most of us see; it is the first theatre that gives us the chance to join in; and the last theatre we know before we are gone. It is inclusive by nature and by necessity. The people who participate in community theatre cross all boundaries of race, sex, religion, economics, age or social strata. They come together and, in a brief period of time, work collectively and collaboratively to create a piece of art that their neighbors, near and far, will enjoy. It creates and whets the appetite of audiences to see other theatre in other communities. Because people are willing to walk through our doors, they will always be excited about entering any theatre. We hope you’ll consider joining our team. There are volunteer opportunities at every turn. We’re always looking for “new talent” on stage, but we also need people backstage. Can you move scenery, carry props, help an actor make a fast costume change? Would you like to serve as House Manager or Usher? There’s a place for you here. Just stop by the theatre or give us a call at (580) 355-1600. |

SETTING THE STAGE FOR OUR NEXT STAGE During the 2006 - 2007 Season, our theater flooded eight times. After conferring with engineers at the City of Lawton, it was determined that our theatre is now in the flood channel of NuMu Creek. Our volunteers and staff spent hundreds of hours, and thousands of dollars repairing damage caused by continual flooding in order to ensure the safety of our patrons. We will soon be creating a berm around the building to help keep the water out. The Board of Directors has come to the decision that the only feasible long-term solution is to vacate the existing structure and create a new home for LCT. We are currently evaluating potential sites for the new theater, working with public and private entities to find the perfect location, and are seeking funding for the next step in our quest for a theatre. We are developing relationships with architects, consultants, and engineers who can provide expertise in the planning and development of our new facility. Even though we have not even started an organized fundraising campaign, our building fund continues to grow through the generosity of our patrons. In addition to our local campaign, we will solicit grants from public and philanthropic organizations. We will continue to offer quality productions at our current site until construction is complete. Our new facility will offer handicap accessibility, improved restrooms, and added comfort for our patrons. We expect only a modest increase ins eating capacity but hope to build a theater that will enable us to perform a wider variety of productions not possible in our current location. Please join with us as we Set the Stage for Our Next Stage in the Lawton Community Theatre’s biggest production yet. How can you help? Assist in fund raising activities; buy Season Tickets; tell your friends; write your check. |

?Volunteer Opportunities? Looking for a way to help out? · Backstage - Technical volunteers are always needed and no experience is required. Every show needs light and sound operators, props people and backstage crew. It’s a great way to “get your feet wet” and get to know the LCT family.· Front of House - House Managers and Ushers are needed for every production. This is a short commitment - only a night or two during the run of a show - and a great way to meet new people.· Saturday Workdays - Volunteer workdays are held from 10 AM - 2 PM on the first and third Saturdays of most months. Come swing a hammer, use a paintbrush, sort costumes or push a broom. Everyone willing to work is welcome - and needed.· Onstage - With 3 musicals, 2 plays, and 2 Outreach programs there are plenty of “onstage” opportunities. Auditions are announced in the newsletter and are on the website. We’re always looking for new faces and new talent.· Office - We always need help with bulk mailings and other office work.· Got an hour or two to spare? Stop by the theatre and Cynthia, Travis, or Jane will find a job with your name on it. |
